3–2 Operating the Scanner

Scanning 1-D Bar Codes
Any scan pattern is adequate for scanning 1-D bar codes.
1. Verify that all connections are secure.
2. Aim the scanner.
• Aim the scanner at the bar code.
• Press the trigger. The red LED should light.
• For proper orientation, while using a scanning pattern, center
the beam on the bar code as shown below.

If you hold the scanner in a position which makes the bar code
unreadable, the red LED blinks.
3. Scan a label.
Make sure the symbol you want to scan is within the scanning
range (3 to 11 inches). See page 1–8.
When the scanner has decoded a symbol successfully:
• laser turns off
• green LED lights
• short, high-tone beep occurs
4. Decoded data is transmitted to the host device using the
communication parameters described in Chapter 5.
